English - Week Beginning 28th June 2021This week we are going to write our own farm themed acrostic poems. We have written these already this year so this will be a good chance to show what we remember about poems. Please send a photo or copy of your poem to your teacher on Thursday afternoon so that we can share these at school on Friday.
What is an acrostic poem? An Acrostic Poem is a poem where the first letter of each word on each line of the poem is the letter from a related word written vertically. This means going down the page. Fields to plough, Amazing animals mooing and bleating as loud as a band, Rows of round potatoes and juicy sweetcorn ready to be picked, Manure to spread as smelly as can be, Eggs to collect early in morning, Rest now, Farmer! Monday: Planning our Poem - Today we are going to gather words and phrases that describe a farm. We are going to use our five senses. Watch this and think about what you would see, hear, smell, touch and taste on a farm. Then complete the farm sense sheet in the file below by adding nouns (mild), and adjectives (spicy) and similes (comparing it to something else with the phrase as _______ as __________ or like ________) or alliteration (repeating the same phoneme such as mucky manure or full fields) (hot).
Tuesday: Writing Our Poem - You will use your plan from yesterday to write your poem. Choose a farm words that interests you from this list or use your own idea. FARM, FARMER, TRACTOR, ANIMALS. Write this vertically on your piece of paper. (This means going down.) Choose a farm related word for each line that begins with the correct letter. Try different words beginning with the letter and choose which you prefer to sound of. Once you are happy with your choice write in down.
Fields of crops Animals everywhere Riding a tractor Milking the cow. Wednesday: Improving your Poem - Read the poem and the poem plan that you have written so far this week. How can you improve your poem? Use a new colour to add adjectives or more detail to make your poem more entertaining. Read it to yourself. Does each idea make sense? Are you pleased with your final poem? Thursday: Writing your poem into a best copy and performing it to a family member or friend. Today you are going to write a final copy of your poem. Use this check list.
